Why did they change Smart Lock to Extended Devices? That name is so dumb.

So now the new name on my S23 FE is Extended Locks on the UI 6.1 update.
Why would Samsung remove a feature that hundreds of thousands use daily?

Update 6-6-2025: Trusted Device feature on my S23FE (T-Mobile is my carrier) is no longer on my phone as an option for unlocking the phone. They're some devices that still have that feature but many phones don't.

Many are blaming Google for an update change, I just want that feature back.

They didn't remove it. They renamed it. It's the same thing. And, the name makes sense. It extends the unlock time... extend unlock.

I forgot to add that Trusted Devices is no longer on the list of options. So now I always have to use my pin number to unlock my phone. I contacted Samsung help.

That's odd that trusted devices is gone. On body or trusted places won't work for you?

Google changed the name, not Samsung. It's Google's feature.

That's garbage. Google needs to keep their hands out of things that belong to other entities.

What? Samsung runs off of Android, which is a Google product. Samsung has to change things that Google changes. And, it's just a name anyway. No change in function whatsoever.

Very true. Though I'm trying to figure out what's going on. I've already reached out to Samsung.

I'm sorry? What? You know that that feature is actually part of the Android system and Google owns Android, so they have every right to name a setting whatever they choose to call it and/or remove features from it. They are not "messing with things that belong to other entities". As I stated before, they most certainly did not remove the trusted devices option, something got twisted in your settings.  Clearing your phone's cache partition should clear it up.  If does not, a factory reset, and restoration of your backup should. Or, you could just follow my suggestion and use a routine instead. In the end, it does not matter what a feature is called, whether or not you think it's dumb.  If it's functional, that's all that matters.
