How to change phone number

So i am trying to switch my phone number however I would like to choose the number how do I do that?

Not often you can choose a number usually you get a recycled one

That would be a question for your carrier. But ususally the only time you can choose a number is if you already have a landline that you want to port over to your cell service. I suppose for a price a carrier would let you choose a number - businesses do.

At your carriers' office / store, they may have a list of open numbers to choose from.
You may have to pay for a sim change unless your a new customer.

At&T would let you choose from a list upon request. They may still do that. Google voice app, you can choose your own number.
