Galaxy S23Android 16 USB HID Enumeration Bug — Galaxy S23 Stops Recognizing Game Controllers After PC Connection
My Galaxy S23 running Android 16 stopped recognizing USB-C game controllers (e.g., Backbone One) after I briefly connected it to a PC. Before this, the controller worked perfectly.
What happens:
Android constantly shows “Charging connected device via USB / Tap for other USB options.”
USB controller does not enumerate as HID (USB OTG devices list stays empty).
Controller doesn’t work in games or the Backbone app.
The USB power-out setting re-enables itself even after I disable it.
What I’ve tried:
Restart
Safe Mode
Cache partition wipe
Clearing USBSettings data
App reinstalls
Confirmed notifications & permissions are correct
Evidence:
OTG USB test shows USB Host present but no devices listed, proving USB enumeration is failing even though OTG support exists.
Expected behavior:
Controllers should be detected automatically as HID devices without persistent USB notifications and without needing special settings.
This strongly suggests a USB role / HID enumeration regression in Android 16 / One UI.
Please escalate this to Samsung engineering for a fix. Users shouldn’t have to avoid USB data use or factory reset just to use game controllers.
