Wish I never updated to UI 8. Broken financial apps, games.

So i finally did the update. Early this morning. Big mistake.

Did the reboots. Did the cache clearing. Did lots of colorful language. Even tried installing a couple of new apps I've never used. One worked, but the freshly installed gaming app crashed just like the previously installed game apps do.

So...Spotify still works. So does Amazon and eBay. MSFT Office works. There are probably others as well. But zero games work. Nor do any of my financial apps which is the real problem. Warm and cold reboots allow only one app to work if I start it immediately after the reboot. But once I close that app session the phone goes back into failure mode for any number of the above types.

I notice that with these apps that crash there is a change in the color temperature of the display, starting with my normal cool color preference then briefly shifting to a warmer tone before completely crashing the app startup. And like many others have reported, the battery drain is noticeably faster since the upgrade(downgrade).

The problems with the financial apps is a REAL ISSUE, Samsung. There needs to be a way to fix this, either with a workaround or removal of this so far vile UI 8.

Waiting for the excuses. Waiting even more for the actual fixes. The clock is ticking, Samsung.

EDIT: BTW, my phone is a S22 Ultra. Zero issues until this morning.

No luck. Nothing exists so far. Just going to have to wait on Samsung. Or cross over to the other side.

Sorry you are experiencing these issues. App crashes and battery drain after updates can happen. Try clearing app data checking for app updates or performing a software update if available. If problems persist please contact Samsung Support for assistance:

If you did all the basic troubleshooting and maintenance after the update, is quite possible that your update got corrupted somehow.  Make sure you have a backup of all your personal information - you can use Smart Switch and utilize Samsung's temporary cloud storage or a flash drive - and factory reset your phone.  I understand no on wants to do this except as a last resort, but sometimes it's necessary.  Resetting the phone gives you a brand new, clean operating system and OneUI, unencumbered by remnants of the previous system and anything that can be interfering.  Restoring your backup will not replicate these issues, as the operating system and UI is never backed up (for just this reason).  There is no reason, other than a corrupted download/install for you to be having so many issues, and all financial apps should have either remained compatible or updated to be compatible.

A corrupted update is not necessarily the fault of Samsung, Google or anything you did.  There could have been a hiccup in the data stream an unstable wi-fi or mobile connection or even some wonky program on your phone trying to run in the background while the update was finishing its setup - any number of reasons, none having to do with the programming of the update itself.  And no it's not, as another user suggested, a deliberate attempt at sabotage to get you to upgrade your device.

I had considered this sort of 'glitch in the Matrix' scenario with the upgrade, but then I started searching for others who have also had problems with post- UI 8 existence. Seems that I'm not alone suffering from the same issues, nor does this appear to be limited to the S22. Owners of S23s and newer seem to encounter the same sort of issues that I'm having with my phone. Sure we all may have had the same kind of freak Matrix glitch during the download and install process, but now it's become a matter of trust, at least for me. Losing access to my money and finances has been an unnerving **bleep** to say the least, and so has having my payroll app go kaput as well.

So much critically tied to this device has shown me just how much of a bottleneck it can be when the phone fails, particularly after placing trust in Samsung to get something that SHOULD BE as trivial and trustworthy as a system upgrade. And that went very sideways, putting at risk a significant part of my operational life. That simply cannot happen again. And to that end I'm not feeling much love for Samsung right now. So I'm now investigating my options, none of which involves the lengthy process of identifying, noting and then backing up all the disparate pieces of data on this phone.

The inability of being able to use a micro SD card via a non-existent built-in port doesn't help matters either, though I guess this is 'a thing' with virtually all flagship phones these days, isn't it? The more things purportedly progress, the more backwards it appears to me. I'm likely to find and invest in a new phone at this point, and the way I'm so very annoyed at this time it's not likely that it will be a Samsung product. Not that I'm a particular fan of data-mongering Google, but at least they are the one who created Android in the first place.

Sorry, its unfortunate that this has happened to you and some others, but my update, and the updates for millions of others went well. Bottom line though, for all those experiencing these issues and no other troubleshooting has worked, is to make sure one has a current full backup and perform a reset. There are more people who had problem free updates than those that don't. It just seems like a lot, because those that have issues are all grouped together, and you don't hear from people who are not having problems.  You are always encouraged to make a backup before going ahead with any update as a "just in case" measure.

So that the UI 8 update went flawlessly well for millions is supposed to make ME feel better? I'm still the one with the half broken phone. I certainly DO NOT get any warm and fuzzies knowing that countless others are still walking around with fully functioning Galaxy phones. It's easy to lecture about doing a pre-update backup AFTER the disastrous update has happened. Yet Samsung themselves didn't advise that themselves or offer that up as an option; it offered two choices: do the update to UI 8, or do not. There was no functional option of selecting a backup. Foolish me in trusting Samsung that they would do the update right.

I know you're trying to help, but believe me at this point you're not. The fact that there appears to be no sort of option to mulligan this charlie foxtrot and RETRY the UI 8 installation that could possibly overwrite the glitchy parts says "millions" as well (sarcasm intended and embedded, BTW). That now it sounds like the ONLY viable 'fix' at this point is a complete reset to Day One...as if the last four or so YEARS of life with this phone working exactly as it should didn't matter one bit in the end. And that's what stings most of all. A fix that I'm left holding the bag and responsibility for, because that's life, apparently. Being cajoled and needled into an ultimately unwanted and unnecessary USER INTERFACE update makes perfect sense...for Samsung. But as I've belatedly discovered after-the-fact, definitely not for me. Yes I certainly *could* have said no to doing the UI 8 install, but frankly I wasn't given any reason beforehand not to say yes until it was already too late to turn back for that mulligan that doesn't exist.

I'm angry at Samsung. I'm having trust issues with Samsung. I'm also now seeing little to no NEED for UI overlays for Android, the quintessential argument as old as time in the Android universe. Android works just fine without such gibberish potentially gumming up the works (potentially? I'd say more than potentially given my exact use case). As much as I may like and prefer some of Samsung hardware bits over that of other phones, this is one use case that is screaming with full lungs that it's NOT been worth it.
