I updated my S22 to One UI version 8 recently and now my phone is closing applications on its own almost every time that I switch between applications. Previously I was able to open a few applications and toggle between them by selecting the button with three vertical bars in the lower left side of screen. Now when I go to switch to an another application that I had just launched a few minutes ago, it has disappeared from the carousel that should show all open applications. This is frustrating since I am usually in the middle of doing some action within each application and then I must start over completely to continue what I was doing. This is a bug that needs to be fixed.

Did you wipe device cache? See this post for steps, as well as other post-update tips:

Also download Good Guardians from the Galaxy Store and install & run the Galaxy App Booster module.

Thank you. I had no idea there were so many maintenance steps. What ended up resolving the issue was removing/disabling all apps from being put to sleep in the background. Wiping cache had no effect.
Is there a way to opt out of OS updates? I already don't want to update the software because learning a new UI is time consuming. But the phone won't leave me alone until I let it update. If I have to wait 14 days for battery life to get back to normal and do a bunch of maintenance, I'm even less likely to want to update the OS.

Update: I contacted customer support and they walked me through wiping cache, which had no effect, and disabling the settings for putting apps to sleep, which worked. Any apps that were set to sleep in the background were the ones that were being closed by the phone under One UI 8. Downside is my battery won't last as long but at least the behavior has gone back to me how I expect it to be and I can use more than one app at a time.
