In the past I've always used 'medium' strength reminders and the notification would slide down from the top if I'm using my phone or turn on the display to show the notification if I'm not using it and require me to complete/dismiss/snooze when I unlock my phone. Now the notification just silently appears in the notifications bar without giving any kind of alert. I've tried using 'strong' strength instead, but there's no way to make those appear without a ringtone and if I snooze those notifications, they come back silently in the notifications rather than using the strong style.
This has made the notifications completely useless since I'm not actually being reminded of anything!
In the notification settings in the app details, set the notification to alert, not silent. Once you put it on silent, you won't get the popups. If you don't want a notification tone for the reminder alerts, but you want the bubble, select "allow sound and vibration", select "alert" and change the notification tone to "silent". Yes, there is actually a notification sound called silent. This will allow you to be alerted but not make any noise.
