Go to his phone.  Go to his contacts app, make sure he does not have you blocked - it sounds like he has you blocked (accidentally or on purpose).  If you are not blocked, delete your contact information from his contacts and create a new contact with your number and a different name.  He might not have even blocked your contact name, but may have blocked your number in spam controls. Go to the phone dialer app, tap the dot menu and select settings.  Scroll to block numbers and look down the list of blocked numbers or search for your number.  If your number is on the blocked list, tap the - next to the number and unblock it.

Alternatively, you can communicate through Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp if you can't find the root of the issue.  Since you get his, and he gets everyone else's but yours, my money's on your number being blocked.

Having a number blocked does not prevent the blocker from calling or texting that number.  It only blocks that number from calling or messaging them. So, the blockee wouldn't be able to respond to a text, even if initiated by the blocker.

Please use the reply button when responding. That way the person you are responding to will get a notification.

If your texts/calls are not being blocked on his phone, and you cna't find anything else obvious in the settings, you can have him contact his carrier to see if the line has been re-provisioned in some way and have them correct it.

Just look at the icon for his messaging app.  The images below will show you which one it is.  The one on the left is Google Messages, the one on the right is Samsung messages.  If you open either app, Google Messages will prominently display as Google Messages, while Samsung Messages will simply say "Messages".
