Is it possible he's accidentally blocked you? Sounds like you're using Google Messages, with the two checkmarks. He should go into his GM profile and check "spam & blocked" to see if your messages are there.

๐Ÿ‘€. so I need to go into his Google account. does it matter if he doesn't use Google message. I look at the message app and I think it is the Samsung message. but he hasn't changed that.

I think his is the the square one. I have the blue one but that's the same . he hasn't changed it. if I switch it over to the blue one on his phone, he will not be able to see his message from the other app .. correct?

Both messaging apps are merely a shell for the reading and sending of texts.  While they may have different features, the text messages remain with your carrier's servers so they will be readable in whichever app is being used.  Bothe messaging apps have a blue icon:  Samsung messages is a white bubble with a blue icon with three white dots in the middle.  Google messages is a white bubble with a solid blue cloud in the middle (also when you open the app It will say "Google Messages" at the top.  Samsung messages just says "Messages".  It may be that if he's using a version of Samsung messages that still contains the RCS feature, it's not compatible with Google's version of RCS.  Go to your settings, and make sure you have "resend as SMS" turned on.  This will send your message as normal SMS should it not go through as RCS.  Ideally, if one of you is using Google Messages, the other one should switch to it.
