Im wondering why my android auto option is not highlighted in my subaru outback 2019 i just brought. Every other option is highlighted but that, even after i pluged my phone in all it does is just charge. I have the galaxy edge 22. It works fine in my 2025 work truck ford escape

Did you enable Android Auto in the Subaru controls?  Android Auto will only be available and highlighted if it's enabled and connected.  If your phone does not automatically connect, you have to connect it manually.  Likely, a 2019 Subaru still needs to be connected to the phone via USB - there is usually an auxiliary USB port in the power/cigarette lighter compartment. If you enabled it and the phone is connected, and it still is not highlighted, that's an issue for Subaru - there may be something in the manual about it.

Did the car come with a manual?  Also, as I said, older cars had to be connected manually via USB to activate AA.  My 2017 Hyundai requires the USB connection.  There is a specific USB port for it.  You might look near or on your console for a USB port that says USB/AUX.  Mine is in the coin tray where the power port/cigarette lighter is, but on some cars it may be next to the head panel.  If you find this port, plug in a USB cable and then plug the cable into your phone's USB port.  You have to initially add the car to Android Auto on the phone (settings/connected devices/Android Auto). Tap the icon to connect a vehicle and connect your car (you have to be in your car with it on to do this). You may have to do something in the settings on the Subaru as well. I don't remember, I set up my AA on my car 9 years ago an haven't had to touch the settings since. Newer cars connect automatically via BT once you activate AA which is why you don't have a problem in your Ford. I actually don't even use AA much anymore, since when I need navigation, it's just easier to turn maps on on my phone and listen to the prompts.

It's a specific USB port.  Many autos have multiple USB ports, this one would be marked in some way to distinguish it as the connection port.  It will either say Android Auto or Aux.  You need to either read your manual or contact a Subaru dealer.  If you do not have a manual, you can likely find one online.  There are also quite a few videos online for it.  Do a search.  You also need a cable capable of carrying 25 watts (even though the car is not capable of it, the phone needs it).  You would likely be better off with the original Samsung cable. It may also be possible that the USB port in your older car is simply not capable of handling the 25.  In which case, you are probably better off just navigating with the phone itself.
