"Call is waiting" message when I go to make a call

Ive never seen this pop up on my phone before.. But I went to make a call and when it started ringing this little message appeared by the end call button that says "Call is waiting". Can anyone tell me what this means?

Prior to me making this call, i was just playing a game on it. I wasn't on the phone with anyone else and nobody else was calling me.

I wanted to see if it happened when i called a different person or if it was just happening with this specific contact. So i called one of my other friends 3x and then called one of my spare throw-away numbers 5x and the message still appeared there when i initiated those calls.

After the 5th time though, it finally stopped appearing.

Call is waiting" on a Samsung Galaxy means you're on one call and another person is trying to reach you; you can manage this in the Phone app's settings under Supplementary services to turn the alert on/off, letting you accept, hold, or ignore the second call, though its appearance (seeing the message when you call someone) depends on your carrier and their phone

Oddly, i dont have/see anything in the phones app settings for any 'call waiting' settings or features. 🤔

Settings at bottom or towards the bottom supplemental settings tab

Not seeing anything for it. I dont have a 'supplemental settings' tab, on mine its 'Other call settings'.
Which only gives me options for:
- hide contacts w/o numbers
- swipe to call / text
- hearing aid comp.
- country/region
- assisted dialing
- dtmf tones

First one is the main phone's app settings. the second one is what's under the 'other call settings'

Hmm not sure why you dont have it

Some carriers disable that feature
