What browser are you using? Try clearing the cache of the messenger app by going into device settings > apps > messenger app > storage > clear cache.
This issue can be sometimes common with certain browsers. Try using the chrome browser for better compatibility with messenger and see if you have any success with it.
When on a messenger call, it will not play videos because of too much memory that will be used. Try turning on your wifi before trying again, that may work
