I'm working on creating a petition against Samsung to stop copying Apple. I've been using their phones for years and feel like, in America they are the best android to have which is why I never switched. But it's embarrassing how they been copying Apple the last few years and I feel like it's time for them to hear from their users because it shows that they're not paying attention. From colors to designs, earbuds design, same battery, charging speeds, etc, etc. Every since Huawei been banned from the U.S., it's like they don't care anymore and keep giving minor upgrades and getting rid of things just because Apple does it. DJ Koh was the best CEO they had.
Android and iOS have been borrowing from each other for years.
I'm old enough to remember what a stink it was when Apple "stole" the notification panel from Android. Same thing with icon theming, etc. It's a 2 way street.
At the end of the day, it's actually a very good thing for consumers if you can pick up any phone from any manufacturer and basically know how to use it because all phones function in similar ways. Being radically different is actually a barrier that keeps people from switching. I can't tell you have many conversations I've had where iPhone users say "Wow, that's just like my iPhone, but better because X." These people would NEVER consider switching if the device were too dissimilar.
Samsung is adopting industry standards here. Industry standards become industry standards because users expect certain features and consistently opt for devices that offer those features.
Smartphones, which are becoming a commodity item, generally work the same way for the same reason cars generally work the same way. You wouldn't want to relearn how to drive just because you bought a car from a different company.
