I've been trying to understand why I still have One UI 5 while everyone else is on 8? My model is older (s20+) but not so old that I shouldn't have been given the newest interface? I even went to check for updates and there's none available.

@davvii Typically the cause is that your device is a carrier device and you are currently using a different carrier. Does the model name end in "U"?

It does. Is that the issue?

Where did you buy your phone? Who's your current carrier?

Please share a screenshot of your about phone > software information screen (see attached pic).1767833178929.jpg

@davvii Where did you buy your phone? Did you switch carriers?

No, I purchased it on the cricket website and that's always been my provider

It sounds like Cricket must not be rolling out updates to their customers.

I agree with @LongHiker. Your software info reflects that it's always been a Cricket device, and Cricket appears to be asleep at the wheel.

If you have access to a computer, try using Smart Switch to get updates. See "software update via Smart Switch on your Windows PC or Mac" on this page:

The S20 shipped with Ui 2.1, it was promised 3 OS, 4 years of security patches. They gave 1 year extra of security patches that ended in March of 2025.

What month does your device say you are on. Post a screenshot of your current software.
