I just had my phone repaired through samsung care. I set my phone in maintenance mode after backing up to samsung cloud and mailed it in. Had the lcd replaced as well as the back glass. No internal components were replaced. When I got it back it was factory reset and all data lost. I restored using my back up but it's not complete. I'm still basically starting with a fresh phone. My question is, is there away to recover anything from before having it repaired?
I'm sorry but at this point, no. The factory reset took care of that. That is standard operating procedure for any device sent to Samsung for repair.
For the future, you may want to manually back up data. I trusted Smart Switch to transfer everything between phones and it worked perfectly for years ... until it didn't. I lost some very sentimental data that day and since then, I have not trusted Samsung's (or Google's) backup methods. I still use them, but I make sure to manually back up what I don't want to lose.
If your phone is factory reset while in Maintenance Mode , your personal data (photos, messages, apps) stays safe and hidden, because the mode creates a separate user profile just for repairs, allowing technicians access to pre-installed apps and system diagnostics without seeing your private files; the reset only wipes temporary data created within Maintenance Mode, not your actual account data. You must enter your normal screen lock (PIN/password) to exit Maintenance Mode and regain full access. With that said, if your profile is missing or you cant find or access it, then they did not do a repair on your device, instead, they sent you a refurbished device.
To exit Maintenance Mode and Restore Data:
Restart: Go to Settings > Device Care > Maintenance Mode and select 'Exit'. Enter Credentials: When prompted, enter your regular screen lock PIN, pattern, or password. Data Recovery (Optional): If you backed up data before entering the mode (highly recommended!), you'll have the option to restore it.
However, as stated before, if your profile is missing or there is not an exit option, you were sent a refurbished device rather then your device that was sent in. 🖖🏻
