Also, what, in your opinion is the best software for transferring a large SMS/MMS database? From Samsung ZFLIP 5 to ZFLIP5 ? on a PC? I am trying to transfer apps selectively (avoid the google messages and samsung messages apps) however, Smart Switch is an all or nothing solution apparently?
Once you restore (or transfer) your backup to your new phone, your SMS messages should all be there. If your old phone is still working, you can use smart switch. You can transfer everything on your old phone to the new one, or you can selectively transfer. In any case, even if you restore your cloud backup, all your messages should still be intact.
You can still use smart switch or just restore your backup to your new phone. I assume you had auto backup on and your phone was backing up every night. You can check when your most recent backup was by going to backup and restore and selecting "restore". If there's a backup it will show and it will show the date of that backup. If you had multiple devices, there would be a backup for each device. Choose the one you want to restore. Even though the phone is a different model, the apps, photos, contacts and messages will be restored and most of the settings (where the settings were the same). If you had custom ringtones set for contacts, you may have to reassign them.
