I have a Z Fold 6 that's on UI 6 and won't update to UI 8

I'm guessing you purchased your device from a third party vendor such as Amazon. This has been an ongoing issue with devices that are carrier unlocked but not factory unlocked. Often they are not labeled properly by third party sellers.

These devices are unable to update because they are unable to connect to the original network provider who is pushing out updates for that particular device.

You basically have 2 options if this is the case
1) temporarily insert a SIM from the device's original carrier, just long enough to update... updates may be stacked in your case
2) have the device flashed to a proper firmware compatible with your current carrier

To prevent issues like this in the future, it is recommended to only buy factory unlocked devices directly from the manufacturer.

If you go to settings, about phone, software, specifically look for Service Provider software version, take a screenshot and post it here, we can see what Provider it was tied to.

It was previously a Verizon phone, you can borrow a SIM from someone on Verizon, it will take 8 updates to get it to the November patch. You will have to borrow a SIM for every month. If you are tech savvy you can flash the software yourself using Odin. There are many tutorials on YouTube on how to do this.

Going to a Samsung authorized service center will incur a fee to flash the software to be an unlocked model.

You can get a Verizon prepaid SIM and it will update!

I don't know why your comments to this post are not staying, yes it will work.
Their cheapest SIM is $35 for 15gb. Updates are on Wifi, the 15gb are for one month.
