Unable to get the number of notifications on icons Galaxy A23 5G

I am unable to get the number of text message notifications on my icon. I have seen this problem  answered for S22series, but the solutions don't work for the A23 5G series.

Do you have the notification badges turned on? Settings/notifications/advanced settings/app icon badges.
