A Series & Other MobileDo your housemates have the same phone as you? The difference in hardware may be a factor, or maybe it's just your older hardware is not robust enough. It is also a distinct possibility that the mobile antenna is faulty. I once had a phone that was usually showing full bars (non-Samsung, not that it matters), but would act as if not connected to a network at all. I really liked that phone, but had to give it up.
If it was new, out of the box from Walmart, it should still have a factory warranty and can be evaluated at a uBrokeiFix location, if there is one in your area. Or you can find a Samsung authorized service center in the support section of the members app.
If all else fails, wipe it clean, sign it out of your accounts and try to sell it or trade it in for a newer model. I realize money may be an issue, which is why you bought the older model in the first place, but you are wasting money on a phone plan you can't use. Can you purchase a phone from your carrier with a monthly fee added on to your plan cost? Who is your carrier?

A Series & Other MobileOne more question. Do you have a U.S. version? You bought an outdated, inexpensive model from Walmart, and Walmart has been known to sell non-U.S. versions. Some will work with some U.S. carriers, most won't. Who is your carrier?
