Android versions 6.0 and up can do this. Your A12 runs Android 12, so it is available to use.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I am not having any luck.

Would you happen to know the best app to use that I can get from either the galaxy store

or  the Google play store ??

You can find the unknown tracker alerts in settings/safety and emergency. There is an app in the Play store called AirGuard. You can search for it and download it. I have it on my phone and have been using it since before Samsung added the functionality, so I know it works.

Well, maybe it's just me. I have 4 new airtags. I pulled the tabs, the trackers made the chirping sound. I can only assume they are working.Using the unknown tracker alerts and the airguard app, no trackers were found.

What am I not doing ??

First, lets establish whether you mean Apple Air Tags or Samsung tags. If they are Samsung, and you registered them, they are not unknown. I believe they either have their own app for tracking or connect through Smart Things. If they are Apple, I believe they are usable only on Apple devices. Both the unknown tracker setting and the Air Guard app are only meant to establish whether any trackers are following *you*. Meaning any not registered to you that you did not place. These apps came into being as a protective measure against stalkers.

My first attempt at trackers was with
Apple AirTag. Regardless of my best efforts nothing worked.

My Samsung Android will not will not communicate with Apple

Airtag.

I then tried the Samsung SmartTag2.When I turn on this tracker

It opens the app store to an app for this tracker.

The app is called Smartthings.

When I attempt to download the app, I get this message,

 ā€œYour device isnā€™t compatible with this versionā€

At this point, I have no idea what to do next.

I temember reading somewher on here that the A12, being a basic phone was not compatible with smart things or the smart tags. I don't use any brand of smart tags yet, so I'm not sure how, exactly, they pair up and are controlled. From what I gather, they are controlled by the smart things app. As someone me mentioned above, you need a higher version of Andtoid to run smart things. Android 13 at least, ecause smart things is active on my S10 which is running 13.

So, your next steps would be to either return, trade or sell your smart tags or upgrade your device. We are at Android 15 now, approaching 15, I'm thinking the phone upgrade would be your all around best option.
