Go to settings AOD, turn it on, only show for new notification.

Always on display, use the search box in on the settings page,type in AOD

I believe OP has an A15 based on post history, so AOD is likely not an option

The low As don't have AOD?  Even without it, the screen should still wake when a new notification comes in.

I'm fairly certain the A0xs and A1xs lack AOD, correct me if I'm wrong about that

I have very little experience with low end A series devices, so I could be wrong, but IIRC it displays the brief banner notif rather than fully waking the display
