Email issue

I created a Gmail email account and it has taken over everything on my cellphone! I can't even access my sbcglobal email on my cellphone anymore!

You can add multiple email address accounts to your email app. Which Email App are you using?

What do you mean by taken over everything on your phone? A Google (Gmail) account is required for Android phones.  Having a Gmail account (or any other additional email account) should not affect your ability to use other email accounts. I, myself, have five.

You can link your SBC global email account with Gmail (if you choose to) so that you can see all your mail in one place.  Any mail reader app (Samsung email, Thunderbird, Bluemail, etc.) can be configured for multiple email accounts - you just have to set them up.  You should always be able to read your SBC Global email by opening a web browser and navigating to the website and logging in, even if your mail reader app does not work properly.

As @realaud said will work. I have five email addresses in my Gmail account and they are not all Gmail accounts. I'm assuming by now you have solved your problem.
