So, I just updated my A54 to Android 16/OneUI 8.0 without trauma or drama. Everything works and the look of my phone has not changed. My wallpaper, icons, and color scheme were not altered (well, except for my quick panel colors, which I simply changed back to my custom one set in QuickStar). No icons were switched (custom icon pack), or folders deleted. If I didn't know I had an update, I would never notice the difference. Didn't fix the one minor issue I was hoping it would, though, so now I will probably have to take steps on that.

A Series & Other MobileThere is one thing that I know is eventually going to annoy me, but I can deal with it. In OneUI7, when I tapped a notification stack to ungroup it, only that stack ungrouped while the others (if grouped) remained stacked. Now, when I tap a notification stack it, it puts a separator between groups with each app's name. I don't need that - my notification bubbles have the app icon on them, and it takes up a lot of needless space and created extra scrolling. Luckily, I do not get a lot of app or message notifications, and it's only a momentary inconvenience and I'll get used to it. it's probably more irritating because it's new. So, @MatthewReiter here's your semi-rant. ๐

A Series & Other MobileAre you saying that the set default icon is not clickable for you? It doesn't look greyed out. If you tap that icon, you will get a list of installed messaging apps and you would select Google Messages as your default.
Did you clear the phone's cache partition? If you have Samsung Messages on your phone and you don't use it, you should be able to uninstall it, which would automatically make Google Messages the default. If you can't uninstall it, disabling it should have the same effect.
You can also try going to settings/apps/default apps, tapping default SMS app and then selecting Messages as your default.
