I've just upgraded my A9 tablet to Android 15. What a mistake.

Turned out that Android 15 is a faulty system that blocks the normal ability to unlock tablets.

When you swipe the lock screen the usual way, the pattern does NOT appear (and neither does the PIN keypad). Instead of this now two useless arrows appear (on the left and right sides). The arrows don't do anything (only bring to another empty screen). What is this nonsense for??

After a couple of hours of testing, I found out that the pattern will appear only when you first press the side button to put the tablet to sleep, then press it again to wake the tablet up. Then, after swiping the lock screen, the pattern will appear as expected.

In over 15 years of using Android, it's the first time I see they release this kind of faulty - and DANGEROUS - upgrade.

DO NOT UPGRADE to Android 15 under any circumstances!

I sure googled for solutions for this issue, but this particular problem wasn't listed anywhere. Plus it looks like most results now are some kind of AI-generated content that list features and settings that don't even exist. And yes, I updated to the latest available patch.

Does anyone have any idea how to make Android 15 behave normally, if possible at all? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Leo

If your device is not behaving normally after an update, the first recommended troubleshooting step is to clear device cache via recovery mode.

If the issue persists, send feedback to Samsung via the support tab in this app.

You may also attempt to disable and re-enable your passcode to see if this restores the intended behavior.

As a more extreme troubleshooting step, you may attempt to factory reset the device. Make sure you back up data to prevent data loss.

If even this doesn't resolve the issue, there may have been an error during the uodate process and you may attempt to install clean firmware on your tablet using Smart Switch for PC or by visiting a certified Samsung repair center to have them do it for you.

Thank you for replying, @CEParsons!

After booting into Recovery Mode, the problem was solved!

(I didn't get a chance to use the 'clear cache' option, but it looks like it wasn't needed.)

Thanks a lot!

Oops too early. After some time, the problem came back.

So far, my warning stays: Android 15 is dangerous garbage, DO NOT UPGRADE!

So this time I was able to clear device cache and the problem, once again, went away.

However, I now need to wait and see if it comes back, like it did before.

Enormous time has already been wasted due to Google's failure to test their software properly.

Nope this didn't help either: after the tablet goes to sleep, the problem returns.

(And yes, disabled and re-enabled my pattern, and switched between pattern and PIN several times already.)

As to the more extreme troubleshooting steps you kindly suggested, I don't have neither the time no desire for this right now (or anytime soon.)

At this point, two things are clear:

-Android 15 is a faulty and dangerous upgrade that should have never been released.

-It's also unacceptable that Samsung allows to upgrade to Android 15 on their devices. Samsung should have BLOCKED this faulty upgrade until it's suitable for running on Samsung devices.

Both Google and Samsung are responsible for this disaster and must address it immediately.

You may have to reset it. I know it doesn't sound good, but usually, that's, after a really bad update, that's usually what brings it back to what it was. I had to do it with my larger tablet. It fixed the problem.

Thanks @whatwhenhowwhere, it looks like I'll have to do it eventually when I have time.
