The one feature I miss most from my favorite home app Nova is the screen double-tap to instantly admin lock the device forcing password or PIN only to unlock - fingerprint is not allowed. Would prevent unauthorized access to device if the person is under duress or unconscious. Now that Nova is back from the dead I may return to it.

This would be a GREAT security feature, enhancing and extending the functionality of Knox.

  • The double tap option does not show an admin lock fiction.  Dot it work for you? I see it is not enabled for you so did you guess that it is an option?  Most double tap options for home launchers  just lock the screen and still alloelw fingerprint unlocking.  Nova is the only good home app that i know of that does this, even Smart Launcher withheld all of its options does not do this. There are some other launchers that have this option but I am not fond of them.

Register does not have an option to use a double tap to lock the device. The tap actions for turning off/turning on the home screen is in Settings/Advanced features/Motion & gestures with two toggles, one for each action. The double tap to turn off the device will auto-lock the phone if the device is set to lock when the screen is turned off.

But, normal double tap only locks the device and a fingerprint can still unlock the device.

Try it and see.

An admin lock forces password or PIN and fingerprint and face unlocks will not work.  Same as first unlock after boot. Better security all around as the user cannot be forced to use fingerprint, or face if enabled.

Nova as double tap admin lock that disables fingerprint and face unlocks. Try it.  If this is too hard to understand then I am going back to Nova

@trackerman That is a function of fingerprinting used as identification, not a fault. One does not have to use a fingerprint to unlock the device they can use a pin, password, pattern, or face unlocks can be used as well besides a fingerprint scan. In any event, one needs to use a security check funciton to unlocked a divide they intended to have lock when not in use, after the screen times out or is toggled off,  which can still be done by double tapping the screen as you suggested the need to bring back in the OP adn the "The one feature I miss most..." .  The suggestion is for this to "come back" when it never went away in the first place.

OK. Trying to explain one last time. I do know and understand that biometrics options, on or off, in settings can be set. I also understand that after a boot that that Biometrics will not work and a PIN or password must be used instead of a screen lock. After PIN unlocking the device that Biometrics will always unlock the device after a short button click, or a double screen tap if double tap is enabled. This means if I press power button or double tap to do a screen lock anybody could force my finger to unlock the phone. An admin rights, not root, lock will force PIN or password because Biometrics is disabled. This feature is not in UI 8.x so your statement Iliad wrong. It is an option in Nova and might be in Microsoft or Niagara launchers. It is not in Smart Launcher. Why is this so hard to understand? Admin rights are also used to remotely wipe a phone and must be granted to the app. I don't want ICE, as example to force my finger to unlock my phone just because I like Biometrics unlocking for normal use but cannot easily disable this setting when I want too. Sorry I asked for this feature that other launchers have. Over and out.
