All previous versions of OneUI have allowed you to swipe down on the middle of the home screen to view the quick panel + notifications (and it still does if they're combined, or it just brings down the notifications if they're split). I have gotten used to this, and I don't think needing to swipe from the very top corner is a good user experience, especially on larger phones.
I think it would be beneficial to allow the user to swipe down from the right side of the home screen (ex. right 20% or whatever it currently is for the top edge of the screen) to bring down the Quick Settings panel, improving reachability and the overall smoothness of one-handed usability
