1. Global Control Over Notification Grouping:
Introduce a toggle that allows users to enable or disable notification grouping system-wide.
  • Currently, the inability to disable or customize notification grouping leaves users with a system-controlled bundling of information that may not meet their needs. For individuals with cognitive impairments, this lack of flexibility makes notifications harder to process, harder to manage, and can hinder their overall ability to engage with notifications effectively.

2. Per-App Grouping Customization:
Provide an option to manage grouping on a per-app basis, giving users flexibility to customize their notification experience based on personal preferences and needs.
  • Currently, the way notifications appear when sorted by time is directly affected by notification grouping. For individuals with cognitive impairments, the ability to see notifications in their true chronological order is critical. This straightforward, time-based presentation allows users to immediately identify and act on recent or urgent alerts without unnecessary, added cognitive effort. Grouped notifications distort this visual clarity by clustering alerts together, separating them from other notifications, and breaking the intuitive flow of time-based sorting.
  • Furthermore, there is a lack of consistency with the system's grouping of notifications between apps, which users cannot control. Thus, making it even harder for users to prioritize and respond to important information, as the natural sequence of notifications is lost, and the resulting sequence provided by the system is unreliable.

3. Improved Group Stack Navigation and Notification Access:
Allow users to view all notifications in a group stack without needing to dismiss any. This would create a more intuitive and accessible way to manage notifications effectively.
  • Currently, there is limited visibility of notifications within groups where when a group stack is expanded, not all notifications are visible. Only a certain number of notifications within a group can be visible and actionable at a time, leaving the remaining notifications in the group completely obscured, and the only way to access them in the notification panel is to dismiss the visible ones. This design imposes an ultimatum on users: they must either dismiss the visible notifications to reveal the remaining notifications within the group or risk missing the information contained in those undisplayed notifications entirely. For individuals with cognitive impairments, this limitation is particularly counterproductive and further exacerbates the difficulty of managing notifications, as it adds an unnecessary layer of complexity and makes it harder to process and act on all the information as a whole in a timely manner.

These inclusive design enhancements would expand Galaxy mobile accessibility by reducing cognitive load for users with impairments, ensuring that notifications are accessible and understandable, and ultimately improving the overall user experience and quality of life.

You have explained it with the most detail. I had a similar post with just a idea in general. Great!
