Sorry but that's the policy of Metro that it has to be 365 day with them before they will unlock the device.

Unlock eligibility requirements

We unlock mobile devices that meet the following eligibility criteria free of charge:

  • The device must be purchased from Metro by T-Mobile.
  • The device must not be reported as lost, stolen or blocked.
  • Three hundred sixty-five (365) days must have passed since the deviceโ€™s activation date.

If the phone is paid off and you have had service for several months it varies by carrier you will be able to get the phone unlocked

Metro is the worst, you can't even swap SIMS to a new phone without jumping through hoops with them.

Sorry, if you have entered a legal contract with your carrier, you are bound to that contract until you have fulfilled the terms of said contract.

Not an issue of them "being jerks." They cannot legally violate an agreement you entered with your carrier.
