GroupChat messages sent message separately or to just one contact

So, I have a group chat with my online instructor and my dad. I sent a text to the group chat, and I made sure that I sent it to the group chat and not my dad. And 2 minutes later, I got a text from him directly saying that it was sent to him and not my teacher. Does anyone know why this is? I'm not sure if my teacher has an iPhone or not, so I don't know if that's why. Please let me know what I can do to make this stop happening, or let me know why it is happening. Anything helps!! Thank you!
