The Contact widget no longer allows for the entire contact to be utilized as a shortcut, which is vitally important to me. In the latest Android update, the Contact widget only allows for direct dial, which renders the widget useless for anything other than a phone call. It is no longer possible to use the widget to create a shortcut for the purpose of reviewing useful info in the contact or to send a text message. Why would Android want to eliminate that functionality from that widget?

What happens if you press and hold on the contact rather than just tapping?

You get the normal options box: "select", "remove", or the little info button that takes you to the App Info page.

The functionality is still there. It's just not in the widgets anymore.

Go into the Samsung Contacts app and select the contact you want to put on your home screen.

Tap the three-dots menu in the bottom right corner.

Tap "Add contact to home screen" and choose whether you want Direct Dial, Direct Message, or View Contact Info. 1750811976120.jpg1750811976157.jpg

Now I have to update my last post because as I read further it's actually much easier now to put the widget which isn't really a widget anymore on your homepage. What would be nice is some pop up explanation of how what you're trying to do is done. But the update actually makes putting a contact on your home screen much easier than long pressing choosing a widget finding the contact pressing on the contact so on and so forth.

What a stupid update. How do they come up with stuff like that is it a mistake or do they actually think that when people touch the contact icon they want to dial that person automatically? Now every time I want to text my wife or anybody else for that matter I have to push the direct dial hang up the telephone call and then choose the texting option. How stupid is that
