I just replaced a dead battery in one of my Smarttags (not Smarttag2) and it wouldn't connect. When I try to add it I am informed that it belongs to someone else. How can that be? I've been using it for years and all I did was replace the battery.

What do I do? If I can't fix this the tag is useless to me.

Try resetting the tag by pressing down and holding the button while reinserting the new battery. Not easy, but it is how it is done.
