Between Samsung tech support, the installers, and Best Buy, I 'm getting a lot of mixed messages, and confusion about my inquiries.  I asked if it was possible to speak to someone with first hand knowledge.  That was not an option

Best Buy wanted to send me out a technician on a paid visit.

Samsung phone support said oven empty one hour at 400 degrees. then hand clean.

I already ran the oven empty one hour at 400 degrees last night.   Now I need to know the hand cleaning details.

1.  Must I warm up the oven before the hand clean

2.  What substance do use to hand clean:  vinegar-baking soda-water mix; Jet dry; other

3.  The best method and cleaner for the range top: vinegar-baking soda-water mix, bar keepers friend; other?

4.  Oven door glass cleaning

5.  Can I use cast iron pans on the range top

Hey, Bluemoon.  I realize how confusing this situation can be. Thank you for sharing your concern with us. I'm happy to clear up any mixed messages about prepping the range.
1) If you plan to hand clean the range. We do not recommend pre-heating or warming the oven before cleaning.
2) You can use traditional oven cleaners, but enamel-coated metal is best cleaned with gentler options like Barkeepersā€™ Friend. For a natural alternative, sprinkle salt on stains, add lemon juice to form a paste, let it soak, then scrub with a sponge. You can find more information in the link below.
3) Check out the link below. It covers what substances to use. However, we do recommend using soapy water. But more options are in the link.
4) You can clean the glass using a glass cleaner or soapy water, and then rinse and dry the glass thoroughly.
5) Yes you can use Cast Iron. Cast iron Is magnetic. However, it can be very damaging to ceramic cooktops if slid across the surface, so use it with care.

Hi,

Thanks for responding.

As I mentioned I was advised to run the oven for one hour at 400 degrees.  Would you suggest the same advice?

Now, I'm not sure how to proceed. You mentioned "If you plan to hand clean the range".  I have no firm plan.  I was told the oven needed to be cleaned after running it one hour at 400 degrees.  I'm trying not to overthink this, but now I can't get a consensus on the best method for this initial cleaning.

What is the proper, and simplest way to do this cleaning.  By hand, or by another technique/option.

You would never think the oven needs cleaning by looking at it.  Shiny bright, no stains/spots/residue, etc.

So I'm thinking soapy water, or perhaps a mixture of vinegar, water and baking soda.  Something like that.

Is there any way to use, any protective measure, for cast iron use?  I never expected to be worried about using cast iron on a modern device.

What is the significance of being magnetic? You mean other magnetized materials will be drawn to it because it's cast iron? Are the burners magnetized?
