My Samsung RF28R6301 French door refrigerator after 5 years has started to automatically cycle the water/ice dispenser on and off every 5-10 minutes, The first solution I tried was to reset the electronics by disconnecting the power for 10 minutes. I did this three different times and it made no impact. Next I tried turning off the Control Lock followed by cycling on and off the Dispenser Lock and turn on the Control Lock once more. Again no success. I have visually inspected all critical related items such as door seals and switches but have not seen anything unusual. Has anyone had this issue?

Kitchen and Family HubRefrigerator: RS277ACRS/XAA
Recently my refrigerator randomly cycles the child lock. Sometimes it will cycle a lot and then be quiet for awhile. It stops at either position. Pressing the child lock button will unlock it and then it will cycle on again. Today the whole panel was locked and the child lock button didnโt work to restore functions. I had to power the frig on and off to reset the frig. I didnโt find any error codes and the unit works okay otherwise.
I wonder if the switch has failed and can be replaced. Donโt know why itโd fail as we never use that feature but that could why too.
The panel, of course, is not in stock.
Thanks

Kitchen and Family HubI have managed to resolve the problem and restore all functions back to normal. The solution was a simple removal of the dispenser from the door by removing the two screws located at the underside of the top of the dispenser. The unit wiggled out and I then disconnected the lead wires to remove it from the door. I then fully disassembled it and carefully cleaned it to remove the calcium and other contaminants. There was a connector to the circuit board I also disconnected during the disassembly. After inspection, I carefully reassembled all components making sure all electrical connectors were fully seated. The dispenser was reinstalled, power to the refrigerator was turned on, and there has been no problem since. I think the reseating of the wire connectors along with the cleaning made all the difference.
BushiM37, I attempted to look up your model number but could not find any info on it so I do not know how close it is in design to my model. However, I would still recommend the same general procedure of removing the dispenser to disassemble and clean it and most important, detach and reconnect the wire connectors. A general design principle seems to be make subassemblies like this relatively easy to remove and replace with a new unit for service. If necessary, I would also look at doing the same procedure to the control panel switch in the refrigerator. This appears to be attached using only snap locks on the panel so it only needs to be carefully pried out. There are probably several several connectors attached to the circuit board that need to be reseated. Let us know how this works out.

Kitchen and Family HubThanks for reminding me of one of my first rules why it comes to fixing things. Clean it, lube it, check all connections. I pulled the panel, cleaned what I could with hot soapy water, sprayed De-Oxit in all the connectors and switches, applied Vaseline to lube the buttons and then reinstalled. So far itโs working properly again. Fingers crossed.
