I am unable to add my American express card from the phone w to my Galaxy watch 6 classic.
The registration fails every time.
I have tried removing and re-adding it with no success.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, factory reset. I actually did it twice. The first time I skipped the wallet setup and tried adding the card after all the setup stuff was done and it failed. The second time I added it during setup and it worked.

I didn't restore the watch settings from backup, just reinstalled my apps and manually restored my settings.

Since the One UI 8 update to my galaxy watch 6 classic, the samsung wallet would not letme use my credit cards. I erased my visa and reconnecting entered it and it's now working but when I did the same with my American Express, it goes thru the steps and says "couldn't register, please try again later".

Anyone have the same issue?

I understand there is an issue with the Amex cards.  Samsung and Amex are blaming each other and don't seem to want to work together on the issue.  If you really want to use your Amex until they sort it out, switch to Google Wallet.  You can reprogram your home button to activate it on a double tap, or you can add a watch face that allows the wallet as a complication (not all the customizable watch faces allow the wallet complication, but the info boards generally do).

 

in the meantime, send an error report to the developers and include your logs (watch logs are embedded in the phone logs).  This is best done immediately after trying to add the Amex card to the wallet. https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/How-to-Send-Feedback/ba-p/3001692

I had the exact same problem on my Watch 8. I found that the only way to re-register my Amex was by resetting the watch and adding it in the initial Wallet setup screen. Resetting the watch and waiting to register the Amex in the Wallet app after setup completed didn't work. Hope this helps.

What if I don't want to factory reset? Last time I did that it didn't restore my backup and I got nowhere.
Amex told me they're looking into a fix and i should try to reload my card in 2 weeks so I'll wait

If you don't want to reset, then don't.  If you've been in touch with Amex and they claim to be working on it (they must have finally gotten enough complaints), then wait and see what happens.  In the meantime, if you really, really, really need to use the card from your watch, add it to Google Wallet, set Google Wallet as your default payment app and use that to pay with the card.  You can reprogram the home button to activate Google Wallet, by going to the wear app/watch settings/buttons and gestures and setting the actions for the button to double press to activate Google Wallet.  You cannot remap the back button, that is strictly reserved for Samsung Pay. You can use the wallets interchangeably on the watch, but each time you switch you will have to set the one you want to use as the default (no big deal, it's just an icon tap). You will just have to remember which one you currently have set.   On the phone, you do not have to set one as the default, you can open whichever one you want. It's always good to have a backup wallet anyway.

Same problem here. Removed and re added. Still won't add to watch. Works just fine using phone but recently started saying "temporarily unavailable" on watch. Doesn't allow me to manually add to watch, onky takes me to list of cards in wallet. When I select Amex, it just fails.

I called Amex yesterday and they said to wait till the 16th and the problem might go away by itself otherwise they will open a case with Samsung...I think you should do the same so Samsung can know there is a problem

I do not believe the pay App exists anymore and it's called Samsung Wallet.

I think you replied to yourself here, not the poster below, so they will never know you asked for elaboration.  In any case, they can call it Samsung Pay or Samsung Wallet, it's still the same thing.

 

As you said, you were in contact with Amex who told you they were working with Samsung on a Fix.  It is now well after the 16th, so a re-contact would not be out of order to find out the status of the fix.

 

I'm also pretty sure that if the helpful poster had this same issue, it was a while back and the info on that link may have changed, or they did not have the same type of problem.  Here, Amex acknowledged it was an issue between them and Samsung.
