I have two Samsung phones running Samsung Visual Voicemail. On one of the phones voice-audio=>text transcription is working as expected, along with audio recordings & logs. On the other phone, no text transcription happens โ€“ I just get a log of the caller (phone number) and time, and can listen to the recorded audio if I wish.

The two Samsung phones are a Galaxy 24 Ultra and a Galaxy 25 Ultra, both purchased unlocked. Both are running the same latest-updates of Android 16, OneUI 8.0, Dec 1, 2025 Security Patch. Both are running the same pre-installed Samsung Visual Voicemail app, 20.0.00.37.

On the S25U, under the Settings tab of Visual Voice I have a โ€œTranscriptionsโ€ setting with that feature enabled and working.

On the S24U, under the Settings tab of Visual Voice there is NO โ€œTranscriptionsโ€ setting so itโ€™s not possible to control (enable or disable) that feature. But apparently itโ€™s disabled since I get no transcribed text, just the saved audio.

My cell carrier, Consumer Cellular, claims that Visual Voicemail is fully enabled the same way on both phones (I had to call them originally to enable it; prior to that the VVm app didnโ€™t work so I always had to call a phone number with a PIN to hear audio recordings), with no additional/separate option to enable transcription at their end. After I called to tell them transcription wasnโ€™t working on the S24U, they deleted and recreated the voicemail account and had me reboot the phoneโ€”no difference.

I have been unable to find anything suggesting that VM transcription is only available on the newer S25U phone. The carrier claims all VM features are fully enabled. No chance of a response from Samsung. So I have no options or place to go to resolve this.

This is carrier related, voice to text transcription is a paid service from carriers.

Based on that assertion, I called Consumer Cellular again and explained the situation to a different support person. He checked the setup and claimed that only "normal" Voicemail was enabled on the problem phone rather than "Visual Voicemail" **, saying that they could only enable one OR the other. He told me he turned on Visual Voicemail and that I might need to reboot the phone.

When I was again near the phone I checked the VV app -- no change (no Settings--Transcriptions option). I rebooted the phone -- no change. I called and left a voice mail -- no change, no transcription, audio only.

So at this point I give up -- the phone's Visual Voicemail app isn't getting/doing Transcriptions because "somebody" doesn't want it to. And you can't beat stupid when settings/knobs and finger-pointing are out of your control.

** even though that contradicted my experience. Previously when "Visual Voicemail" wasn't enabled (I had to call to get CC to turn in on months ago), the VV app wouldn't work at all and the user had to manually dial the CC voicemail phone number and enter a PIN.
