Just got my hands on the S24. I'm playing around with settings and deciding which camera option I should keep the phone on for most images. 50mp seems like the obvious choice for better quality, however 12mp is the default option, less space consuming and more range from wide angle to zoomed in.

Which setting are you keeping your camera on most when taking photos?

Personally I use 50mp if you want to use zoom the 12mp is better option

I just did some interesting tests using the 200mp the 50mp, and the 12mp lenses on my S24 Ultra. The 200mp file sizes were typically at least twice the size of the 50mp and the 12mp file sizes. While the 50mp and 12mp file sizes were very similar, the 12mp image size was 3000x4000, the 50mp was 6120x8160. Can someone else confirm these findings? I find it really odd that the 50mp takes significantly larger image sizes than the 12mp with virtually the same file size.

12mp is what I use since that is what the sensor is. I mentioned 50mp in a comment a while back and someone pointed out pixel binning, look into that and it may help make up your mind what to use.

I would typically use the higher res cameras for really important photos, maybe landscape vacation photos or family photos. Everything else I stick to 12mp for flexibility of zoom. I haven't tested this, but I think the higher res photo options also have pretty aggressive post processing, regardless of what settings you have
