Is it normal for pics in the gallery to darken when you remaster?

I think this just started happening after One UI 7. I don't believe I've even seen pictures get darker when I remaster them. If this is a bug it needs fixing.

You're definitely not alone in experiencing pictures darkening after remastering on your Galaxy S24, especially after the One UI 7 update. Many users have reported similar issues, including over-processed images, loss of detail in dark settings, and photos becoming overly saturated or dark after automatic editing.
This suggests it's not normal behavior and is likely a bug introduced with One UI 7. The remastering feature is supposed to enhance photo quality, not degrade it by making images darker.
Here's what you can gather from user reports and potential workarounds:
* It's a known issue: Several threads on Samsung Community forums and Reddit discuss this problem, specifically linking it to One UI 7.
* Over-processing by AI: The "remaster" feature heavily relies on AI, and it seems that with One UI 7, this AI is sometimes over-processing images, leading to unwanted darkening or saturation.
* Camera Quality Drop: Beyond remastering, some users report a general drop in camera quality after the update, with blurry or over-processed photos even in good lighting.
What you can try (though a permanent fix likely needs a Samsung update):
* Clear Camera App Cache: Go to Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage > Clear cache. Avoid "Clear data" unless you're prepared to lose camera settings.
* Reset Camera Settings: Open the Camera app, tap the gear icon (Settings), scroll down, and tap Reset settings.
* Adjust Intelligent Optimization: Some users have found that changing the "Intelligent optimization" setting in the Camera app can help.
* Open Camera app Settings.
* Look for Intelligent optimization under Intelligent features.
* Try setting it to Minimum. This might reduce the aggressive post-processing.
* Turn off Super HDR (Gallery Settings): In your Gallery settings, there might be an option called "Super HDR." Try turning this off, as it can contribute to unnecessary exposure changes.
* Use Pro Mode or Expert RAW: If you're comfortable with manual controls, using Pro Mode in the default camera app or downloading the Expert RAW app from the Galaxy Store might give you more control over image processing and prevent unwanted darkening. These modes generally offer less automatic processing.
* Report the Issue to Samsung: The more users report this bug, the higher the priority it will be for Samsung to address in a future software update. You can do this through the Samsung Members app (Support > Send feedback > Error reports).
Since you mentioned this started after One UI 7, it's highly probable that Samsung will release an update to fix these camera and gallery issues. Keep an eye out for future software updates for your Galaxy S24.

Hello, I have a Samsung S25 Ultra and I've noticed this MAJOR issue since over a month. I don't know how it was when I initially got my phone as it's been less than half a year. I have all the latest updates done and I've tried EVERYTHING suggested in this topic and elsewhere and nothing fixed the issue.

I can hardly believe Samsung didn't notice such a huge problem that is an absolute deal breaker almost ruining the whole camera... Cause what's the point of having among the best stock HDR Jpegs made my a cellphone if AS SOON as you do the tiniest edit through Samsung's official (Galaxy Photo Editor) such as removing something with the "Magic Eraser" or resizing/shrinking 1% of your picture, then "Save As" it's gonna make a super UGLY low quality, dark and washed out copy as if it ruined all the HDR information the default picture had, **bleep**?! 😡

Using any of the "Maximum, Minimum Disabled" optimizer or enabling/disabling the "Edit photo in Raw editor for brightness before processing them and then cut the size blabla" didn't change anything at all! It's just plain bugged! No... disabling HDR isn't a choice as it's the whole point of using this S25 Ultra otherwise the pictures just sucks and I'll rather use my (Sony A7IV) with way more expensive lens but when I need a quick preview to easily send by Messenger the phone is very useful.

Is it just the Galaxy App that's trash and I need to use another editor? Is there any that will edit and keep the HDR? That's the most important... If it can't have a AI magic eraser I could care less by now 😑
