I've seen many posts about the UI 7 update causing crashing, but I haven't seen one specific to my issue.

I have tried downloading the UI7 update, but it kept saying "Couldn't Install Update" and "Try again later." Then my apps began to crash or cause my phone to restart. I thought I was okay to just wait out a patch or something, but then over 50% of my apps will began to crash, hard stop, or even cause my entire phone to crash.  I tried clearing the partition cache - it didn't fix anything. After a couple days of the symptoms getting worse, I tried using the SmartSwitch app on my computer to install the update, but there was only an option to back up and restore my phone - no update option - a dead end. Then it began happening every couple of minutes, so a few hours ago I performed a factory reset - and now it will crash even more often (and to top it off, I'm missing some data from the backup, and almost got locked out of my Google account).

Any suggestions? I've scoured the internet and tried everything I can find. It seems like it *might* have something to do with the permissions controller/manager, but I can't find the option to reset those for all apps at once on my phone.

EDIT: I'm definitely thinking the update was corrupted somehow, as it still tells me there's a "new" update, but every time I try to download it it says it failed to update without even restarting the phone. I've tried the "download, pause, restart halfway through, download again and update" method and that doesn't work either. Please help!

Thank you @executioner1244 ! However, I already attempted the fix from your comments - check the middle of my post. It didn't fix the issue.

Furthermore, it looks like UI 7 actually IS installed on my phone. It likely installed overnight, as a few nights ago was the first time I woke up to the "unable to install update" message - but maybe it DID install and just thinks it hasn't or something?

My phone has also reset all its settings (though I still have installed apps and data) and keeps rebooting every few minutes even if I don't open any apps. Starting to think this phone was a waste of money if these developers make mistakes of this magnitude....

At this point, the only thing left to do is make sure  you have a current backup of your device, and then factory reset it and restore your backup.  Since a factory reset starts you with a clean operating system, and the OS is never backed up, restoring your backup is unlikely to give you a repeat of the issues you are having, unless your problems are being caused by a third party app that you will also be restoring.

Thank you @realaud ! I actually have already done a factory reset (see near the end of my post). My last thought is to factory reset a second time without restoring my backup in case of a third party app being the issue (like your second suggestion), but I'm waiting a few days with my phone powered off completely (since it now crashes/restarts even when I don't open any apps) to scour the internet and see if I can find any other possible fixes.

Have you tried restarting in safe mode? That will confirm or eli.inate 3rd party interference. You can actually also do a selevtive restire of your wallpaper and settings.

Unfortunately, restarting it in safe mode doesn't stop the phone from experiencing the crashing/rebooting issues.
