I have a new 128gb PNY flash drive that I wanted to save photos onto directly from my phone. I got a new USB adapter from Anker to do this. Flash drive works fine on my computer and the drive as well as adapter works on a friends computer. However, I cannot get this my phone to recognize it. I plug it in and nothing pops up for me to utilize it. What am I doing wrong?

I have a Otterbox case and sometimes the USB-C doesn't fit well because of the box. Have you tried removing your case to see if there is a better connection? I would also suspect the Temu adapter. So the Kingston isn't USB-C? You can't connect directly to the phone? I would try another adapter or even a different cable.

Try removing the case and plugging in the flash drive directly to the phone. Sometimes the case can get in the way of a good connection. Try using a short cable and see if that helps.

Do you, by any chance, have auto blocker on?  Settings/Security and privacy/auto blocker. Having auto blocker on prevents any action other than charging via USB.

New problem. Since the most recent update July 2, 2025, the phone doesn't recognize the USB when I plug it in. I have to shut down the phone, insert the USB (Sandisk) and boot the phone. There is no recognition that the stick is there, you have to go to MyFiles to find it in the list. There is no prompt to unmount. You have to open the disk (USB storage 1) then touch the ellipses at the top right, select unmount from the list of options. An option to mount appears on the screen, but if you pull out the USB the option goes away. If you touch the option it just remounts the USB again. I installed Sandisk Memory Zone but it's the same effect. The Sandisk is recognized when you boot with it inserted but if you unmount and try to insert it again it's not recognized.

It may be a security thing that the phone doesn't recognize the drive except from a boot. The USB works fine in my Samsung S8. When inserted it brings up Memory Zone app, which was installed when I bought the Sandisk. It works fine in my laptop, no issues there either.

I've seen a video that says you can go into the system apps and make changes to the USB options, but a search finds nothing USB at all. So right now, from my experience, if you want it to work, shut down the phone, plug in the USB and restart. Leave the USB in the phone until you're done with your backup and unmount, unplug.
