I know it used to be optional to have it on. Now it seems like I can't turn it off. In the last few days while working outside in the heat, I pocket dialed 911 a few times via the emergency sos. I even tried switching the contact from 911 to my personal phone number and still apparently called 911....how do I turn it off or make it way harder to activate. I believe side button needs to be clicked 5 times in a row, and I have no idea how thats happening in my pocket, when there's nothing other than the pocket lining hitting it. Is there a way to make it require way more clicks? Or just have it off? It's very frustrating considering a sheriff even came by to make sure everything was ok the one day. And I'm sure the police department was also getting annoyed by getting pocket dialed. Eventually I just turned the phone off completely, which was NOT idea

There should be a toggle in the Emergency SOS settings that you can turn on to "Require swipe to call". Do you have that toggled on? Your phone must be a pretty tight fit in your pocket to have that happen constantly. Also, in the Display settings do you have "Accidental touch protection" on? That could help prevent accidental touches from a pocket or bag as state in the setting description.

Yes, apparently on a hot and sweaty work day, phone will somehow swipe while in my pocket. And it's not a tight fit, just carpenter jeans. I'm quite confused by this as well. And yes, "Accidental touch protection" is on as well, just double checked. Only remedy that might have worked so far, though not as hot of a day today, is using the flip phone case that covers the screen. I just don't want to use that cause there's a lot of cutting and grinding wood and metal at work. I don't want steel shavings getting between flip case and screen, why I use an normal phone case at work. I also feel like that's not a good solution in general. "Just get a different phone case"

The best solution would be to keep the phone out of your pocket and go old school with a holster.. if you got a case that completely enclosed the phone, and the phone  is in your pocket, how is sawdust/metal dust going to get in?  The buttons are much more sensitive to touch without a case.

The case flip case is the s-view case from Samsung. It doesn't zip up or anything. But again, I feel like "use a different case" should not have to be the solution when the problem used to be optional, as in, turning off sos features

Yes, you should have to find a solution. It is mandatory, not optional now. I hope you never really need it. Millions of people have these phones and only a handful experience this problem, and it's usually due to user error or user settings. A case that covers the buttons makes it nearly impossible to trigger the emergency SOS. This is why they made it 5 presses. It almost impossible to accidentally press a button 5 times. If it's triggereing in a pocket, it means the buttons are naked.

The phone always has a case on it. So buttons are always covered by case. I'm surprised that it gets triggered so easily. If it's required, it'd be nice if it could at least have different options on how to activate it. It'd be great if that comes in a future update so it's not a problem for anyone

It really is hard to *accidentally* press the button five times. They can't make it too difficult to activate or people would really be up a creek in an emergency. The "require swipe" is supposed to prevent the accidental activation. If one has touch sensitivity on, and/or double tap or lift to wake on, combined with keeping the phone in their pocket, *that* is the problem.

I see I'm not the only that somehow activated it by accident. I did Google it before coming here and noticed it isn't just a me issue. I already took the advice of another commenter about turning off double tap to wake. We'll see what happens with that next week since there's a heat wave coming to my area so I'm sure I'll be in prime condition to test that

Try turning double tap to wake off in settings. This fixed it for me
