Very disapointed!

Device(s): Two Galaxy S23 Ultra SM-S918B/DS (EU), both 1TB
Software: Android 16 / One UI 8 (latest update installed)

Iโ€™m a long-time Samsung customer and Iโ€™m deeply disappointed.

For months, public briefings and coverage suggested AVF (Android Virtualization Framework) would be activated on Samsungโ€”similar to what Pixel users have had on Android 16. After upgrading, there is no Linux Terminal / AVF VM on either of my S23 Ultra devices. I paid โ‚ฌ3,000 for these two phones and now discover the flagship doesnโ€™t deliver a feature that is central to my workflow.

This is not a hobby feature: I need the Linux Terminal VM for cloud management in my startup. Telling users to โ€œjust use Termuxโ€ is not an answer when Android 16โ€™s AVF Linux Terminal is the point.

Samsung, please answer clearlyโ€”no marketing, no deflection:

  1. Will AVF + the Android 16 Linux Terminal be enabled on the S23 series (SM-S918B/DS)? Yes or No.

  2. If Yes: give a timeline / build (QPR/firmware) and any prerequisites.

  3. If No: state it openly and explain the policy (Knox/virtualization stance).

  4. Root/Bootloader: Is rooting/BL unlock on One UI 8 effectively blocked, making any workaround impossible? Provide an official stance.

Even more frustrating: thereโ€™s been no official statement addressing this serious issue.
Please post a pinned, official update with a concrete planโ€”or a definitive โ€œnot supported.โ€

I want to stay with Samsung. Right now, youโ€™re making that very hard.

Need this functionality for my StartUp company - being underway without PC for Cloud Management tasks. I have even purchased 2 (two!)  Galaxy S23 Ultra (1 TB mem) for mor than 3.000โ‚ฌ  ... now being totally frustrated!

We all are market demand ... definitely ! I will change the brand!

The missing clear Communication by Samsung is the final decision factor!

I paid โ‚ฌ1,500 for each device (I bought two 23 Ultras) and don't want to be cheated.

The fact that the update has been out for so long and there's been so much demand, yet there's still not even a single explanation, demonstrates once again the importance Samsung places on customer satisfaction. This helps me understand why people are so biased towards Samsung.

This is a dealbreaker for me. If they wont make it work for my S24 Ultra, i will not buy another samsung phone for my family, we currently have 7 samsung android devices that will need to be replaced within a few years. Just saying..

I have an s23 ultra. I use Termux, but theres some things I simply cannot do without full Linux. Samsung is being very annoying.

True, itโ€™s really annoying. I have the S25 Ultra and Iโ€™m experiencing the same issue. I want to use this powerful phone to its full potential โ€” writing code on it and treating it like a true pocket PC and Samsung DeX would bring a huge plus here. Hopefully, Samsung will address this as soon as possible.

I'm shocked that this issue is still relevant and Samsung hasn't done anything! I own a Samsung S23 with a Snapdragon 8th Gen 2 processor. I also need a full-fledged Linux operating system. Samsung's complete disregard for the issue only pushes me to buy Google products next time. I'm still hoping for a solution.
