I can not unmute app if I turn off Sound and Vibration option

In an effort to mute spam text I toggled off my messages apps' Sound and Vibration option (The below is not the app I know it's just to show what it looks like before):

Now when I go to it or ANY other app I decide to toggle off that option  Sound and Vibration is gone and I see a mute icon next to the app and can no longer hear notifications for those apps or turn them back one HELP !!!

Just a thought but that does nothing to stop spam

Try turning off notifications for the app instead.

Tried that and re-enabled and same result.

Tip does not stop spam be like having phone off and being surprised you got voicemail

Did you actually tap the notification categories and make sure the incoming/new messages category is not muted?

And if your using Google messages, you can mute individual conversations.

Enabled and being muted are two different things. Tap on the category and make sure there is a sound attached, and it is set to alert
