My S22 is model is SM-S901U1 (USA ; Snapdragon ; unlocked).  I am using the latest firmware (GYK3)

I am unable to edit the information in "Settings | Safety and emergency | Medical info" and in "Settings | Safety and emergency | Emergency contacts".

When I press on the radio buttons for each of these categories, they change color, but the child windows don't open.   I don't know when this problem began, as I have entered this information before (and the current information is correctly accessible via the lock screen).  But at the moment, I have no way to edit it.  All of the other radio buttons in the "Safety and emergency" category work correctly.  The (lack of) functionality is not affected by using Safe Mode.

Has anyone else experienced this?  If yes, how did you resolve it?  I'm not willing to try a factory reset of the device.

Have you tried going into the contacts app and editing the emergency contacts group?  If you open contacts and go to the groups section, you can add or remove an emergency contact.  You can also do this by editing the contact itself.  Go to the contact in question, enter edit mode, and add or remove the contact to the emergency contacts group.  I don't have a suggestion yet for the editing of the medical info.

I use Google Contacts, so I assume that your suggestion is not applicable to my situation.

Why would you assume that?  I use Google contacts as well.  All the information is still contained within the contacts app, it's just a matter of where the information source is pointed.  If you go to your contact list, and go to the groups (between the favorites and the letter A), you will see the emergency contacts group.  You can then edit the group to add or delete emergency contacts (delete by long pressing the contact you want to remove from the group).  You can also go into the individual contact, edit the contact scroll down to groups (double person icon) and designate as a contact to the group or remove from the group.  You will see two instances of emergency contacts, check them both.  One is emergency contacts for emergency SOS if you have it set up, and the other is for the Safety and Emergency contacts.

I'm confused.  In the Google Contacts app (as well as on Google Contacts via the web), I have no groups between favorites and the letter A (actually, I have no groups at all), and I have no entries for Emergency.  Or are you doing the edit on the contacts db with the Samsung contacts app (which I don't have installed)?

Your contacts, yes, even the Google contacts ones are contained in the Samsung Contacts app and the contacts tab of your phone dialer (actually two paths to the same location).  That's where the groups are located.

You've been using your phone all this time and did not know that your Google contacts were linked to the Samsung contacts app and your phone dialer?  Actually, the group designation is also in your Google contacts on the web (and I assume the app).  Where it says "label", that's the group designation.  The groups are on the left hand side of the web page.

I try to avoid having multiple apps accessing a common db (hence, I removed Samsung contacts when I set up the phone).  And you used a different terminology ("groups") that doesn't exist in Google Contacts.

So, yes, I have a label "ICE", which I assume stands for "In case of emergency".  And it does contain my emergency contacts.  I do not, however, have a label "Emergency contacts", like you do.

Do you also have a workaround to edit the info in "Medical information", which is undoubtedly in another db somewhere?

I suspect your issue may stem from the fact that you removed the Samsung Contacts app.  The safety and emergency settings are tied to it.  I don't understand your issue with Google contacts sharing the database with Samsung Contacts.  I'd rather use the integrated app then the Google app, but that's my preference.  I have always kept my contacts in Google since they developed it.  It's any easy way to maintain the contacts when switching phones.  However, whichever brand phone I had, I always used the native contacts app to access the contacts in Google.  The contacts app is just a shell, like the messaging and mail apps, your database does not get downloaded to the phone (unless you specifically download it).  The emergency contacts entered into safety and emergency do, however, so the emergency contacts can be accessed even one can't get into the phone when it's locked.  Those are the only contacts accessible to emergency personnel and anyone who might find your phone.

After using ADB to bring Samsung Contacts back from the dead, then, yes, everything now works correctly.  Thank you for your persistence.

I had a mild, annoying DB issue (I enter an address on one line, and an apt # on the next, and it would be fine for a while, but then the 2 fields would end up combined on the first line, w/o any space or comma in between; annoying).  So I used ADB to deactivate the Samsung Contacts app, thinking that the corruption may have been caused by too many cooks in the kitchen.  That didn't fix the problem, unfortunately, but I never realized that I needed to re-enable the Samsung app.  I use Google Contacts on my phone, my laptop and my workstation.

I've had that issue, but I learned to work around it. it's been a long time since I added a new contact, so I actually forgot, whether I just went back and edited the contact, or entered the contact in Google. I actually think the issue occurred with contacts I added on the Google contacts website, and I edited them in the Samsung contacts app, and they remained correctly configured. I think it's a disconnect in formatting between Google and Samsung contacts, as I never had the issue on any other brand.
