I just came across this information.

**Google’s RCS implementation (via Jibe)** is designed to bypass carrier dependencies. But here’s the twist: while Samsung Messages now technically supports Google’s RCS backend, Verizon has chosen not to allow RCS functionality through Samsung Messages on its network starting January 6, 2025.

What this means is that even with Google's Jibe RCS feature supporting the Samsung Message app, Verizon will not permit Samsung Messages to use the RCS function on its network, forcing their customers to use Google Messages as the go to messaging app.

Apparently, Verizon has the capability to override this and not allow Samsung Messages to use Google’s Jibe RCS support.

@GiantFan All of these services use a different port or backend server. It's as simple as Verizon blocking that port or not standing up a Jibe servier in their backend.

The RSC support from Google will not work in Samsung Messages if you're a Verizon user. Verizon is blocking that capability as of January 6, 2025. The carrier must have some kind of deal in which they exclusively promote the Google Messages app. Verizon even stopped support and retired their own messaging app (Messages+) at the end of last year and began promoting Google Messages to replace it.
