Since my phone updated the battery powered indicator has changed and I can't read it as well as before. It is especially difficult since the color changes with the battery level and numbers develop a darker background and become harder to read. Can this be changed? Can the size of that number be increased? I have tried many things with no success.

I agree but there isn't something a user can do to improve the visibility

One fix would be to use a widget. Hopefully in a future update they will make it customizable.

You can use a widget. But nothing can be done to the icon until samsung realizes it was a horrible design that's hard to see.

It really was. I have ok eyesight. I can't imagine someone with poorer eyesight.

I have poorer eyesight (cataracts and severe astigmatism, coupled with presbyopia) and I have absolutely no problem reading the battery icon or the percentage. I also have a routine set to notify me when my battery goes below a certain level so that I don't have to keep checking.  While I agree it's a bad design, and problematic for many people, there are workarounds to being able to get your battery level at  glance.
