Is your camera access turned off? It's probably in your quick toggles. If not, you can edit them to add it.

Galaxy S Phones@tinka1 Are you getting any error messages?
Do you have a case on the phone? I know that there are some cases out there with a shutter that can slide across the camera to protect it. You don't happen to have one of those do you?

Do you have the camera in pro mode? I have found that very issue after the update when I was checking out pro mode. If your camera settings are set to keep last settings used, and put your camera in pro mode, when you open the camera it may look black. I'm also assuming that you did not open the camera while the lenses were laying on a desk.
