After the latest update I found a setting I have not seen before.  " record calls"  This was automatically turned ON.  this is illegal in most US states and who knows where the phone after recording calls may be sending the conversations.

Everyone should check their settings for "record calls" and turn it off.

I don't know where you are, but here in Tennessee call recording is legal as long as one party on the call (me) is aware of it. When a call is being recorded, the Bixby voice announces it at the start of the call. Frankly, it doesn't work well for me and most calls aren't recorded at all - which is why I prefer to use a 3rd party app.

@user45xocfN7pV The feature is turned on. However the user has to click the button during a specific call to use it during that call.

It is not illegal in most states. If you opt to use it the caller receives a audible notice that they're being recorded.

When you press the record button, it will inform the party on the other end that the call is being recorded.

This is legal in all 50 states.

Exactly, as evidenced by calling customer service and getting the announcement that this call may be recorded.

I use the record button when I call customer services.

So I have a record of the call too.

I think the answer we need is how to turn of call recording. I received a recent update which has turned it on. I can't see a way to turn it off. If anyone knows please post instructions. Thanks

The problem many of us have with the new call recording icon is that it can be accidentally activated by moving the phone during a call. If you have never experienced this that's great for you. But so many others like me have had the call recording activate accidentally during calls and that is causing huge problems for me and others. I am a lawyer and when clients or opposing lawyers hear the recording this has caused embarrassment and creates mistrust. The issue is not legality of recording but rather that clients and other lawyers I deal with assume that our conversations are confidential and will remain so. Indeed, lawyers have ethical obligations and the recording, even inadvertently or accidentally, is an ethical violation. Some clients are now refusing to take calls from my phone number so there are real cosequences and economic damages. Samsung needs to provide a setting that makes the icon that triggers recording capable of being removable/disabled. Phones outside North America have this option but N.American phones do not. In the US there is no way to disable the icon. Some have suggested the solution for US users is to use the Google phone dialer but I have paid for features from my provider that do not work with the Google dialer. Others say "use earbuds" but that is not a practical solution for me. The fix cannot be complicated: Just put a slider in phone app Settings that makes "Call Recording" optional.

Yep, need the option to turn it off. Should be a simple solution. I've had to occasions in which the "Record" icon was inadvertently touched, setting off the audible notice. Embarrassing at best.
