Galaxy S PhonesI agree. If people are having issues from the get-go after the update, and a cache wipe does not fix them, they should just do the reset. The reset is not the nightmare it used to be with the advent of the automated backups. They must remember, though, that if they have a lot of documents and downloaded stuff, to back them up separately. A reset gives one a whole new, clean operating system, so when they restore their backup, they don't have any misconfigurations. They will still have to rework some settings, but that's certainly easier than trying to solve problems.

Galaxy S PhonesThe implementation of ui 7 was horribly done and has an overall rushed feel to it with all the issues it is causing with the various models. More testing should have been done across these models to minimize the risk of potential issues occurring. For my part, I would be interested to see the averages of tested devices, ie how many of each model group were used during the testing phase prior to shoving it out the door. I suspect it was an extremely small amount or more than likely "ai sandbox testing " and not actually device testing given the amount of issues that are being posted daily

Galaxy S PhonesYou don't lose the settings. Your phone auto backs up nightly. You reset and restore your backup. The backup contains your apps and settings - you can view what gets saved in the backup by going to settings, tapping your Samsung account, selecting Samsung Cloud and then selecting backup data. You will see which options are checked for backup. That is what is contained in your nightly backup, and that is what will be restored to your phone. Google backs up your contacts and photos as well as your apps and settings. The operating system/UI is never saved with the backup so that restoring the backup would be unlikely to perpetuate any errors. The only things you MUST save separately before a reset are any documents you created, things you downloaded, and custom ringtones you added to the device. I always have things that are important to me backed up six ways from Sunday anyway. Anything I didn't specifically backup separately is unimportant to me.
Samsung didn't make an error with the update, but installing a massive change over an old OS is always a challenge. Cache clearing usually solves getting rid of incompatible bits and pieces, but sometimes it doesn't, possibly because of an individual user's setup or app conflicts.
