While trying to capture the moon , if I zoom in I can get a great picture if not I get a white glare even after holding steady. What am I doing wrong.

I literally just zoom in on whatever I'm taking the picture of.... and wait a few seconds for it to figure things out (lighting, focus, etc) then I just snap the picture
