I am one who doesn't like the phone app pages disappearing all the time. Doesn't matter whether the phone is up to my ear or if I keep it in front of me. I'd like to see an option added that you can select to keep the phone and directory pages up, especially in a call when I need to address other apps during a call instead of holding finger or thumb on the screen or repeatedly tapping the phone because it blanks off even if you hold a finger still on the screen. It is really frustrating to me.

The screen timeout for the phone dialer and the proximity sensor are two different functions. The proximity sensor is supposed to turn off the screen when against your ear to prevent accidental commands. The screen timeout when you have the phone on speaker is to conserve battery power, since phone calls use a lot of power and screen on time uses power. Samsung refuses to and probably never will make this time out period adjustible, despite repeated calls for it from everybody. The only ways to keep the screen active is to tap it when it starts to fade, or return to the home screen while on your call. The mini phone screen will appear, and should you need to access the keypad, you would tap it to return to the call screen.

I tried everything to stop my phone from flashing on/off and not one answer solved that irritating issue. After searching for a while, I found an excellent app that finally fixed the issue. Keep Screen On is the app and I believe it's in the Google Play Store. Easy set up and it works on all apps on your phone. It immediately worked after installing and I love it. Give it a try, you won't be sorry. The ridiculous tapping when on a call stopped immediately. Finally.

There's no way to turn off the proximity sensor unless you make the call on speaker.

I use my speaker all the time and the flashing was worse and more frequent. I would cover the front camera with my finger and it stopped flashing. Using tape to cover it didn't work and it was difficult keeping my finger on it. The only solution was installing the Keep Screen On app. Shouldn't have issues like this on my expensive phone.

Keep in mind it's from an A series phone (by looking at the topic category). The A series are low/mid range phones that don't have the best things. But it does what a phone can do (kinda)

All the phones from A-Z (from Samsung anyway) time out rapidly on the phone dialer. It's by design.  Personally, I don't care one way or the other, since I don't need to look at my phone when on a call and having to navigate menu prompts with the keypad happens at the beginning of a call.  When you are actively pressing the buttons to do that, the screen stays on.  I also use extend unlock to keep my phone unlocked when on certain wi-fi networks or connected to my watch (which is always), so all I have to do is double tap the screen to turn it back on.  This is not a hardship for me.  I'm not sure if the screen actually locks when it goes dark or just goes dark and turns back on when tapped since my screen lock is rarely on. I suspect it does not lock, as the lock screen never appears.
