After a recent update to my A54 phone, I could no longer transfer files via USB to my PC.   So I conferred with Gemini Ai, and it took me through many steps to fix the problem, which it laid at the feet of the update.

HERE IS GEMINI'S REPORT TO SAMSUNG.  I provided it to a chat agent, but who knows what will become of it?

Subject: Persistent "Charging Only" USB Bug (One UI / MTP Failure) - Galaxy A54

I am reporting a persistent bug related to USB file transfer on my Samsung Galaxy A54, likely introduced after a recent One UI update.

Symptoms:

When connecting the phone to a Windows 11 PC, the USB connection repeatedly defaults to "Charging only."

Selecting "Transferring files" from the notification panel failed; the other options did not grey out, and file transfer never started.

The USB role was locked to "USB controlled by: This device," preventing the PC (connected device) from taking control.

Standard troubleshooting (cable swap, port swap, clearing MTP cache, driver reinstall) failed to fix the locked state.

Resolution (The Bug Fix): The issue was resolved by forcing the connection mode via Developer Options.

Enabled Developer Options (by tapping Build Number 7 times).

In Settings > Developer options, set Default USB configuration to "Transferring files / Android Auto."

This action immediately cleared the bug and allowed file transfer to function normally. Please investigate the cause of the persistent USB role lock to "This device" at the user level.

Now you need to copy and paste this to feedback in the support tab of the members app. This is peer to peer developers will not see this.

Thank you for the tip. I didn't have the members app installed, but I went through the routine after reading your note and sent the text to feedback. Larry
